FAQ

RSA 91-A, the “Right-to-Know” law in New Hampshire, was established to “ensure both the greatest possible public access to the actions, discussions and records of all public bodies and their accountability to the people.” The City of Nashua is committed to complying with RSA 91-A and ensuring transparency and accessibility to its residents.

Requests can be submitted by using the City’s online form, at the Record Administrator’s office, or with departments. For purposes of efficiency and clarity, we strongly suggest submitting your request through the online form. Paper forms are also available in the Record Administrator’s office at City Hall.

What is a “Public Record?”

A “governmental record,” or “public record,” is defined as any information created, accepted, or obtained by, or on behalf of, any public body, or a quorum or majority thereof, or any public agency in furtherance of its official function. This includes any written communication or other information, whether in paper, electronic, or other physical form, received by a quorum or majority of a public body in furtherance of its official function, whether at a meeting or outside a meeting of the body.

RSA 91-A does not require a public body or agency to compile, cross-reference, or assemble information into a record that does not already exist, nor does it require the public body or agency to create records to answer questions.
